An 11m disused artic lorry has been transformed into an amazing eco tree house with living walls and willow trees growing through the decking at our site at Top Barn. The lorry has been transformed using sustainable materials and has a large decking area so you can enjoy the vast views across the beautiful open countryside. It was created as a base so we can maintain our activities throughout the year. It is an excellent indoor facility for some of our gardening, cooking and artistic activities and has become a real asset to the project. It is also in keeping with our ‘green’ ethos that we were able to recycle a piece of industrial waste and breathe new life into something that would otherwise be scrap.
This creative project was led by Pablo Productions who created the building using locally sourced sustainable materials. Young people worked alongside the professionals in all aspects of the design process, generating innovative ideas and sharing ownership of the project.
Since the opening of the tree house in September 2011 work has continued on site and we now have electricity, a fully functioning kitchen and heaters to keep us warm during the winter months.
The lorry will continue to be used as a base for the Green Fingers sessions and one-to-one work with young people. It is hoped the building will also be used for training and holding workshops in the near future.
