In June 2010 we were awarded money from the Big Lottery Fund to deliver a 5 year ‘Green Fingers’ Healthy Care in Action Project. In 2015 we successfully gained another 5 years worth of Lottery Funding. The Project aims to improve the well-being of Looked After Children and foster carers through a range of Healthy Care activities, focusing on ‘green activities’ linked to the environment.
Our project involves:
- Ongoing therapeutic gardening and arts sessions
- Educational support involving access to therapeutic horticulture and green activities such as arts and crafts, environmental activities and forest schools
- Delivery of the Arts Award
- Training for foster carers and Children’s Homes to help them adopt healthier lifestyles – such as cooking, gardening, and the Arts Award
- ‘Green’ events to raise awareness of healthy lifestyles for both young people and their carers – such as art & crafts, cooking, environmental activities & organised bike rides
- Summer Activities Programme
- Volunteering opportunities for young people and foster carers
- Links with other organisations within the community
