We have been as busy as the bumble bees here at Green Fingers! Once lockdown eased, we were able to start getting back on site with COVID measures in place of course. The site looked like a wildflower meadow, all the outdoor flower beds were overgrown, and you couldn’t even see the boarders! The grass, nettles, mint were all up to our knees! We had help from Good Soil strimming and mowing, thank you! The polytunnel was overrun by giant poppies and weeds and, unfortunately, everything we planted so far this year was not too healthy at all! We started by rescuing what we could and luckily a devoted sessional worker and long-time team member (and resident ‘go to’ for all things gardening!) had been busy growing plants, fruits and vegetables for us! Thank you so much! We worked hard getting the site back to ‘normal’ and to be honest, it is looking even better than before, and we have even managed to plant out some fruit and vegetables. So far, we have planted courgettes, carrots, parsnips, beans and peas, butternut squash, pumpkins, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and chilis and more! We therefore should have plenty of pumpkins ready to carve in October and maybe even make some pumpkin pie. Yum!
The Green Fingers Team miss you all and we can’t wait to see you all hopefully via Zoom this summer and back in the new school year in September. (All being well.)
Enjoy some before and after photos below. Stay safe, keep washing your hands and social distancing!
