Summer Down on Site
All in all what a colourful, exciting and engaging summer Green Fingers has had this year. Everyone has worked really hard, whether on our Educational Mentoring sessions in the week or our Green Fingers Saturday Sessions. Everyone has been sowing seeds, planting, re-renovating the flower beds in the allotment and the polytunnel, creating new paths in the garden, preparing the soil for re-planting, even trying to rabbit proof our polytunnel! We have also put together hanging baskets and planters of flowers for carers to buy and they all sold out! All the hard work paid off and we have had a very successful harvest of tomatoes, chilli peppers, cucumbers, sweetcorn, courgettes, runner beans, sweat peas, bell peppers, basil, spinach, mixed lettuce leaves, onions, garlic, rhubarb, plums, redcurrants, strawberries, gooseberries and hundreds of apples! The site has developed over the summer into a beautiful space; the flowers and greenery give vibrant colours to look at, the tomato and basil plants smell like you want to go and make a pizza! All this scenery attracts the buzzing bees to listen to and the chirping crickets. We have seen frogs, toads, grass snakes, newts, butterflies, dragonflies, muntjack deer, rabbits, a mole, all sorts of pond life such as water scorpions, water boatman, leeches, whirligig beetles and more. It really has been a summer for the senses, making Green Fingers a truly therapeutic place to be.
“I feel happier since going to Green Fingers and I think that now I’m not so afraid to try new things” R Young Person.
“I would like to say a huge thank you for all the brilliant experiences you give to L. She has grown in confidence and looks forward to all the activities. I know L is in safe hands and you understand children who live with emotional trauma on a daily basis. I also like L being with the male team as she sees positive male role models and she responds well.” S Carer.
“To everyone at Green Fingers. Just to say a huge thank you for your kindness and patience on behalf of J and ourselves. Since joining your team, he has become calmer and his temper has almost disappeared.” S and P Carers.
